Emil Ruusuvuori v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head

There have been two previous encounters between these two – one at the Atlanta Open in 2021 and another on the Challenger circuit in 2022. Both on hardcourts, and while Nakashima won the first, Ruusuvuori came back to register a straight-set win in the second.

Ruusuvuori 6-6 on Clay After Solid Sunshine Masters Showing

Having made the third round at the Indian Wells Masters and then reached the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters, one would have expected Ruusuvuori to enter the clay court swing with a lot of confidence.

In some ways he did that, finishing his clay court duties with a third round appearance at the Barcelona Open and three other opening round victories. But in the end, Ruusuvuori would have liked to do a bit better than his 6-6 win-loss record here.

On grass, however, Ruusuvuori hasn’t played a lot of tennis. In fact his first main draw win on the surface came in 2021 – and that was his only win – and it was only in 2022 that he showed his capabilities on it.

He was a quarterfinalist at the Queen’s Club competition after starting out as a qualifier while making the second round at both, this tournament and Wimbledon.

Can he repeat that showing again this year?

Nakashima Returns as a Quarterfinalist Last Season

Having played on grass for the first time in his career in 2021, Nakashima registered his first win at the highest level on it only last season. And what a win that was, what with Nakashima needing three tie-breakers to get past fellow American Tommy Paul at this very tournament.

Nakashima would go on to make the quarterfinal here, enter the Eastbourne International as a qualifier and then win his opener before stunning a few by reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon.

That included a win over Denis Shapovalov too before he stretched the eventual Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios to five sets in the round of 16.

With that kind of a record under his belt as recently as last year, he will have some confidence coming up against Ruusuvuori here.

Ruusuvuori v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

Backing Nakashima to come through but not before Ruusuvuori has given him bit of a working over here. Expect a three-setter here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Nakashima to win: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/6
