Vickery had made it to the main draw of this competition as a lucky loser after having fallen to the unheralded Zeynep Sonmez in the second qualifying round.
However, there were no signs of any such issues when she took to court for her opening round encounter against Priscilla Hon as Vickery cruised to an easy opening victory.
Hon was supposed to take on Elise Mertens in her opener but when the Belgian seed withdrew from the tournament she would have considered her chances of winning a main draw match. Not only did Vickery did not allow that, she also crushed Hon 6-3, 6-0 to clinch the victory.
The match lasted a mere 52 minutes and saw Vickery break Hon four times in the encounter. In turn, the American did not face a single break-point in what turned out to be a clinical display of tennis.

Bektas Comes Through against Galfi
It wasn’t the most straightforward of straight-set wins but Bektas found a way to get past Dalma Galfi and enter the second round of a WTA tournament on grass for the first time in her career.
Bektas who had won seven successive matches in grass court competitions including a title at the Kurume ITF tournament, carved out a 7-5, 7-6 (1) victory in an hour and 47 minutes.
The American who hit her career-best ranking of 182nd two weeks ago, grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the match but failed to serve it out at 5-3. Two games later, she broke Galfi again when the world number 98 served to stay in the set.
Galfi went a break ahead in the first game of the second set and then again in fifth game but lost her serve immediately after to surrender the advantage. In turn, Bektas was at her supreme best in the tie-breaker to deliver the victory.
She will hope to make it nine in nine now.
