Kudermetova Breezes into the Final

Top seed Veronika Kudermetova has enjoyed a path of least resistance en route to her sixth career WTA singles final.

Without losing a set, the current World No. 14 marched into the final after moving past the likes of Alison Riske-Amritraj, Carol Zhao, Celine Naef, and Viktoria Hruncakova. All in all, the 26-year-old dropped just 17 games in the four matches.

With this, Kudermetova is now 22-12 for the season so far and has finally made it to her first singles final of the year.

It has certainly been an eventful and exciting spell for the Veronika, who reached the semifinal on four instances – WTA Adelaide, Doha Open, Italian Open, and Madrid Open. To even things out, she has also lost rather surprisingly to the likes of Diana Shnaider (Charleston, round one) and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (French Open, round one).

A doubles runner-up in last year’s Rosmalen Open and the 2021 Wimbledon, Kudermetova has some grass pedigree to back her play on Sunday. Add to this superb singles and doubles career, it becomes evident why she will start as the favourite.

Alexandrova on a Roll

Like Kudermetova, Ekaterina Alexandrova, too, has not lost a set in ‘s-Hertogenbosch this week. Her exploits saw her beat Evgeniya Rodina, Kimberly Birrell, Emina Bektas, and Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Two of those matches saw a tiebreak which Alexandrova did well to survive. Moreover, many of them were closely contested – all things considered, she dropped 32 games to stay on course to defend her title.

Looking at the bigger picture, Ekaterina’s season is now at 17-11 – supported by her quarterfinal feats in Charleston and Miami. In recent weeks, she made it to the mid-rounds in Madrid and Paris, losing respectively to Iga Swiatek and Beatriz Haddad Maia (pushing them to three sets).

Alexandrova, who is now #26, may not have beaten as many top-10 players as her upcoming adversary, but this is not to say that she is not a fierce athlete.  When at her best, Ekaterina fights hard and does not make things easy for her opponent.

Considering she seems to be in her element in Den Bosch, perhaps she can find it in her to stun Kudermetova again. After all, history is on her side on this.

Kudermetova v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip

This one will be exciting; expect three sets in the match. Kudermetova starts as the odds-on favourite, but it is only by a slim margin.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Kudermetova to win: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 1/1
