Taylor Fritz v Bernabe Zapata Miralles Head to Head

Their only previous outing came on the slow courts of the 2022 French Open and Zapata Miralles had surprised Fritz in that one. Things could be a lot different on grass.

Fritz Coming off Stuttgart Quarterfinals

He had a first round bye in the first tournament he played on grass for the season last week before Fritz made the quarterfinal at the Stuttgart Open.

The American was hoping to add to his two career grass-court titles he had won before making it to the Stuttgart Open but his journey was abruptly ended by Marton Fucsovics.

After winning his second round match against Aslan Karatsev in a relatively difficult manner, Fritz fell to a surprising straight-set loss to Fucsovics.

Fritz will now hope he can pick up the pieces in a bid to get back to his good form which has already seen him win a title this year and possess a 33-13 win-loss record on the circuit.

He has a simpler challenge to get past in his opener this time around but it could well be the nature of this win, whether or not clinical enough, which could decide some of the rest of the results.

Zapata Miralles Sent Packing at the French Open

For a player who has relied on clay all his career to win matches and tournaments, adjusting to grass in the early portion of this swing will be difficult. And Zapata Miralles will know it has been made even more challenging by a few other circumstances.

For one, taking on a grass-court specialist like Fritz can never be easy for most but even more so for someone not very proficient on grass.

Equally importantly is Zapata Miralles’ form and/or fitness, which saw him retire from his Geneva Open second round match against Christopher O’Connell following the loss of nine successive games.

He did return to competitive tennis at the French Open and took a two sets to love lead against Diego Schwartzman only to lose the next three from there.

Which is why, Zapata Miralles will hope to use this match as a way to get into some rhythm rather than realistically look to win it – or at least that’s what we believe.

Fritz v Zapata Miralles Prediction and Tip

While Zapata Miralles had defeated Fritz in their only previous match, that result had come on clay. Things could be a lot different on grass.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Fritz to win in straight sets: 2/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
