Peterson started her campaign in Miami with a three-set win over the German qualifier Laura Siegemund. With that win, she has made it to the second round of a major WTA event for the second time this year. She last achieved this feat in the Australian Open, where she lost to Maria Sharapova.
Between then and now, she played in the 125K Series tournament in Newport Beach where she was a quarterfinalist. Peterson then followed it with a semifinal run in the ITF event in Midland. Then, the Swede moved on to incur a series of opening losses in the Fed Cup, Mexican Open, and Indian Wells Open.
