Kevin Anderson v Jaume Munar Head to Head

The two have met once before, and, for those looking for a recent form guide, it came earlier this year in Pune, where Anderson beat the Spaniard in straight sets in the quarter-final on his way to the title.

Has Anderson Recovered from his Elbow Issue?

The big question for fans of Anderson coming into the tournament is has he recovered from the elbow injury that forced him to withdraw from Indian Wells before he played his first match there?

The South African is hugely dependent on his serve, so will need for it to have fully healed if he is to put up a good showing in Miami. Provided he is fully fit, then he could enjoy a good run here, and could even be a possible contender for the title.

He will benefit from the fact that, due to the scheduling havoc caused by the rain in Southern Florida, he does not play until Saturday, giving him more time to rest the elbow.

Munar, Clay Court Specialist Making his Way

Munar has had a very good start to the year, with four quarter-final appearances already to his name.

The strength of his game can perhaps be seen from the fact that three of those tournaments were played on clay – Cordoba, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro – so perhaps he will be expecting to perform better on the European circuit in a few weeks’ time. Still this is very good experience for the 21-year old Spaniard.

He was beaten in the first round in Indian Wells by the Australian teenager Alexei Popyrin, but has already gone one better in Miami by disposing of India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran on Thursday. Gunneswaran was himself on a high, having qualified for his first ever Masters tournament two weeks ago and getting to the third round at the Miami Masters.

Anderson v Munar Predictions & Tips

Anderson will start odds-on favourite for the match at 3/7, whilst Munar is priced at 23/10. Based on theor comparative world rankings, previous track record and all-round game, the South African should have too many weapons at his disposal for his younger opponent, the only question being whether there are still any lingering problems with his elbow.

Tip: Anderson to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
