Caroline Garcia v Petra Kvitova Head to Head

Kvitova leads 5-4 at the moment. They last met in the final of the 2022 Cincinnati Open, where Garcia won in straight sets.

This will be their first meeting on grass courts.

Garcia Beats Fourlis

Caroline Garcia, seeded number three in this year’s German Open, defeated Jaimee Fourlis 6-3, 6-2 in round two. In the preceding match, she had beaten Sabine Lisicki 7-6(2), 6-3.

Now ranked World No. 4, Caro will compete in her first quarterfinal since reaching this round in Stuttgart in April.

As for her season highlights, they include runner-up feats in the Lyon Open and Monterrey Open. In addition, Garcia featured in the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Caroline is now 21-12 for the season and is coming off a bleak clay swing; she was beaten in round two in the French Open and in round three in the Madrid Open and Italian Open.

As for her form on grass, she won the Bad Homburg Open last season and followed it with a fourth-round showing in Wimbledon – a feat which sparked her second-half revival and ascent into the top 10.

Kvitova Moves Past Podoroska

Petra Kvitova, seeded number seven, made quick work of Nadia Podoroska in round two as she prevailed 6-1, 6-1. In the preceding match, she beat the former world number one Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-4.

A champion in last year’s Eastbourne International, Kvitova is somewhat of a grass court specialist too. She has five titles on the surface – which includes two Wimbledon titles.

The current World No. 9, who is now 33 years old, has also had a decent spell in 2023. To list her accomplishments, there’s her title run in the Miami Open and a quarterfinal feat in Indian Wells. That said, Petra had a muted clay spell with just two tournaments (both round-one losses), which can be attributed to her choice not to subject her body to the demanding requirements of the surface.

Kvitova is highly experienced, and when in form, she can easily march into the final rounds. She seems to be in her element on grass, and if her opening salvo is any indication, Garcia is in for a tough match.

Garcia v Kvitova Prediction and Tip

This is an evenly matched affair, but for me, Kvitova will start as the favourite owing to her superior grass-court pedigree. Expect plenty of gaames.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Kvitova to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
