Roberto Bautista-Agut v Andrey Rublev Head to Head

The pair have played each other eight times before, and the current head to head record is four wins apiece.

The Spaniard’s four victories have all come on hard courts, whilst Rublev has won on a mixture of hard courts and clay.

They have never played each other on grass before, though.

Bautista-Agut Upsets Medvedev

Although not regarded as a grass court player, Bautista-Agut did win Rosmalen back in 2014, and was a runner-up in Mallorca last year.

And his progress to the quarter-finals in Halle, beating both Andrea Vavassori of Italy, and Brandon Nakashima of the USA, both in straight sets, was a reminder that he needs to be taken seriously on this surface.

Despite that, he began his quarter-final match with the top seed, and world number three, Daniil Medvedev, as the clear underdog.

Not that it showed in a first set which began with the pair swapping breaks before settling down until, just as it seemed a tie-break was on the cards, the Spaniard fashioned another break.

Three times in the second set Medvedev held break point without being able to convert any of them.

This time it did go to a tie-break, in which Medvedev was the first to blink, giving Bautista-Agut an early mini-break.

For good measure, the Spaniard broke him again to wrap up an impressive victory.

Rublev has by no means had things his own way in Germany this week, beginning with his first round opponent, Yibing Wu of China, who took him to three sets.

Yannick Hamfmann of Germany proved a less formidable obstacle, and he was able to defeat him in straight sets.

But Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands meant that he had to work for his place in the semi-finals, one break of serve enough to earn the Dutchman the first set.

The second set went with serve until a sequence of three dropped serves left Rublev a serve to the good. He was able to serve out next game to level the match.

When Rublev broke at the start of the third set, and again, the match seemed as good as over.

Griekspoor, to his credit, recovered one of the breaks, and then saved four match points.

Back on his own serve, Rublev made his fifth match point count.

Bautista-Agut v Rublev Prediction and Tip

On paper there is very little to choose between these two, and their head to head record is even.

However, if Bautista-Agut can show the same form as he did against Medvedev, he will take some stopping.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Bautista-Agut to win: 6/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 23.5 games in the match: 5/6
