Barbora Krejcikova v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

This is a long-standing rivalry that dates back to 2015 during their ITF circuit days and has seen seven previous iterations overall. Ostapenko leads 5-2 on head to head which includes a win in Rome earlier this year for her.

Krejcikova Continues Runaway Form

She has won four matches in a row on grass and in none of them has Krejcikova lost more than four games in a set. Her toughest encounter came in the second round where she overcame Tereza Martincova 6-4, 6-4.

In the semifinal yesterday, Krejcikova wasted no time again, defeating Lin Zhu 6-3, 6-2. The match lasted nearly an hour and a half with Krejcikova coming back from a break down in the very first game of the encounter to get back into good rhythm.

She broke Zhu twice in a row after that to take a 4-1 lead, missed a set-point off her opponent’s serve before serving to love to take the lead.

In the second set, things went even more smoothly for the Czech player who went 4-0 up with a couple of breaks of serves. She held her side of the service business without a lot of worries and clinched the encounter soon after.

What’s been fascinating about this journey from Krejcikova is she hasn’t quite had a good time on grass in her career. A French Open singles winner, the only time she has done well on grass has been in doubles tennis but converting that into singles form hasn’t been easy and before this she had never made a grass final.

This will be a good time to make it a title win for the first time.

Ostapenko Continues to Struggle, Continues to Win

This must be some sort of a record with Ostapenko winning her fourth straight match in three sets before making the final.

And for the second time in a row, Ostapenko had to come back from being a set down, this time against Anastasia Potapova in the semifinal, to enter the title-decider.

Ostapenko was on court for two hours and nine minutes in her 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory which saw her lose her serve three times, including once in the final set. However, Ostapenko’s fighting qualities came to the fore yet again as she continued from where she had left off in all her previous three victories in the tournament.

Earlier the Latvian number one had needed three sets to get past Linda Noskova, Venus Williams and Magdalena Frech to make it to the final of a grass court for the third time in her career. She has won one title which had come in Eastbourne in 2021 while last season she had fallen in the final of the same tournament to Petra Kvitova.

Can she pull of an upset win here?

Krejcikova v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova is a bit of a favourite here at 8/11 but there’s not much to choose frankly. Can we expect another three-setter though? We think otherwise and this could be decided in a couple of sets.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Two sets in the match: 8/13
