Kvitova Out to Defend Her Title

Having won this tournament last year as well, Kvitova has a good chance of making it two in two when she takes to court for the final yet again. This time around she has made it here with four successive victories, all of which came in straight sets.

Kvitova, who had already bumped out Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinal, wasted no time getting past Ekaterina Alexandrova in the semifinal. She won 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 21 minutes against a player who had won the Rosmalen Open last week.

Here, however, Kvitova was a far superior player, needing just one break of serve in each of the two sets to come through. In turn, the former Wimbledon winner was so clinical with her service she didn’t face a single break-point and won 73% of her service points.

While Alexandrova had a decent first serve going, she struggled with her second serves as Kvitova managed to take advantage of that and won 43% of those points too.

In the final, Kvitova takes on a player who looks to be in the form of her career this season.

Vekic Continues to Exhibit Her Capabilities

Vekic has done well on grass before having made three previous WTA finals on this surface and won one title. The question is if she can double her grass title count and we think that’s quite possible given the manner in which Vekic has gotten herself a place in the title-decider here.

She started off with a win over the tricky Varvara Gracheva in her opener but her biggest win of the season came against the Wimbledon 2022 winner Elena Rybakina. Vekic came back from being a set down in that encounter to clinch a second round victory.

That set her up with Elina Avanesyan whom she brushed aside with relative ease before stunning another top-10 player in the form of Maria Sakkari. In a match lasting two hours and 18 minutes, Vekic overcame the loss of her serve on three occasions and three match-points to win 6-4, 7-6 (8).

She will, however, hope to do a lot better on her second serve which saw her lose 57% of those points – it was only her opponent’s even poorer second services that aided Vekic here.

Kvitova v Vekic Prediction and Tip

Kvitova starts off a favourite with Vekic expected to fight tooth and nail and make things difficult for her opponent.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Games Handicap Vekic +3.5: 8/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 10/11
