2022 Runner-up Jabeur Hoping for Improved Grass Showing

She was a favourite going into the final of the 2022 Wimbledon but Jabeur fell to the power and accuracy of Elena Rybakina in the final last year.

This year, Jabeur enters Wimbledon on the back of some underwhelming grass court performances and with some fitness concerns earlier this season that didn’t quite allow her to flex the proverbial muscles on tennis courts.

Jabeur made the quarterfinal of the French Open, which wasn’t such a bad result given her injury issues, but she has followed that up with a couple of underwhelming performances on grass.

She lost to Jule Niemeier in the first round of the Berlin Open and while she demolished Jasmine Paolini in the opener at Eastbourne, the Tunisian wasn’t able to find her rhythm in the second round. Jabeur went down to Camila Giorgi 6-3, 6-2 in that match.

Can the 2022 runner-up start things off with some more confidence than has been the case for her on grass this year?

Frech Solid on Grass This Year

While Jabeur is an obvious coming into this match, Frech might not be a pushover given her record on grass. Overall too Frech has been consistent with her victories on grass but looking specifically at this season she would be rather proud of her efforts.

Starting her grass court campaign in Nottingham this season, Frech went past Sonay Kartal and Lin Zhu to make it to the quarterfinals there.

At Birmingham she was then forced to make it through the qualifiers to get to the main draw and she did that by beating Jil Teichmann. Barbora Strycova and Sorana Cirstea were laid low by Frech before Jelena Ostapenko ended her run in a hard-fought three-setter.

And while Frech fell in the very first round in Eastbourne, she looks to have done enough to suggest she could put up a sterling showing despite facing the world number six.
