Krejcikova Makes it to Birmingham Final

Having won a title earlier this season on the hardcourt surfaces of Dubai, Krejcikova hadn’t been able to continue with that run after that. There were three occasions she won two successive matches in tournaments but did not go beyond that, leaving Krejcikova scratching her head.

That was, until she got to Birmingham.

Playing in her first grass court competition of the season, Krejcikova overturned her poor career run on grass by reaching the final of the Birmingham Open.

She was a favourite going into all her matches, including the final against Jelena Ostapenko, and ended up winning four of those five.

Speaking of Krejcikova’s overall performance on grass, what’s interesting to see is that this is the first time in her career that she has won four matches on this surface in one season! Coming into Wimbledon 2023, that should hold her in a good stead.

Watson Showing Some Sparkle

Watson was once a great British tennis hope but has found herself slumping to outside the top 100 on the WTA charts for a while now.

In fact, before the start of the Nottingham Open she was ranked 195th before qualifying for the Nottingham Open and cruising past the likes of Jule Niemeier and Tatjana Maria to make it to the semifinal there.

Watson then lost in the opener at the Eastbourne International but had done enough to gain a wildcard for her home Grand Slam. It’s a tournament in which she has done well in the past too, having reached the fourth round as recently as the previous edition.

This time around, however, she is up against a player who is not just ranked 11th in the world but showing some red-hot form on grass.

Can Watson put up a fight?
