Adrian Mannarino v Alexander Shevchenko Head to Head

43rd-ranked Adrian Mannarino and 97th-ranked Shevchenko have not played each other before.

Mannarino Through to his 12th ATP Final

Adrian Mannarino safely progressed to the 12th ATP final of his career at the Mallorca Championships after besting Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets.

Saturday’s final in Mallorca pits the experienced Frenchman against first-time finalist Christopher Eubanks, and then Mannarino will have two full days to prepare for his first-round match at Wimbledon where he will face Russian debutant Alexander Shevchenko.

Mannarino will re-enter the world’s top 40 after his exploits in Mallorca. So far, he’s played brilliantly on grass, where has a 7-2 win-loss record, reaching back-to-back quarterfinals in Den Bosch and Queen’s. In the former, he scored his best win of the season when he upset top seed Daniil Medvedev.

The 35-year-old is 21-19 in 2023 and will vie to win his first ATP title since August in Winston-Salem. Should he beat Eubanks, he will collect just the third ATP title of his career.

Mannarino’s record at Wimbledon in the last three participations doesn’t sound eye-opening. He has lost in the first round twice, and last year, he was taken to five sets by Max Purcell in his opener.

Shevchenko Marks Wimbledon Debut

Alexander Shevchenko will be among a slew of Russian players in the main draw of the 2023 Championships.

Last year, Russian players were banned from competing at Wimbledon, but that ban has since been lifted this year to allow them to play without any national affiliations.

Shevchenko made his Grand Slam main draw debut at the 2023 French Open where he defeated Oscar Otte in the first round before losing in straight sets to Lorenzo Musetti.

Tuesday will mark his second successive appearance in a Major in what will be his Wimbledon bout. Shevchenko broke the world’s top 100 for the first time in mid-April, shortly after winning the Madrid Challenger.

Less than two weeks later, he qualified for the Madrid Masters where he picked up a couple of Masters 1000 wins en route to the third round. His run ended in a three-set defeat to compatriot Daniil Medvedev.

Shevchenko would follow up that result with another third-round showing in Rome as a lucky loser. But since leaving the Eternal City, he’s gone rather quiet, winning once in four matches.

Mannarino v Shevchenko Prediction and Tip

Shevchenko has never played a match on grass at pro level. As far as tough first rounds go, the debutant has a seemingly impossible task in his hands. I’d expect fatigue to be a factor, probably costing Mannarino the odd set, but the Frenchman should ease into the second round.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Mannarino to win: 1/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Mannarino to win in four sets: 11/4
