Baez has a 4-0 record against the Chilean. Although only one of their past four meetings have been at the tour level, which was this year in Cordoba. Baez won that match in three sets.

Sebastian Baez will be competing at Wimbledon for the second time in his career. The 22-year-old had beaten Taro Daniel on his debut last year, but had fallen to David Goffin in the second round.

This time he will be taking on the Chilean qualifier in the first round and has a good chance of winning the opener again, and could face Goffin again in the second round. The Belgian faces Nick Kyrgios in the first round.

So far, Baez has blossomed on clay but is yet to put up impressive performances on other surfaces. This year, the Argentine is 15-15 at the tour level and 18-17 across levels. His best came at the Cordoba Open, where he beat Federico Coria for his second career title.

He was also a semifinalist in Santiago and reached quarterfinals on three other occasions.

On grass, he is 1-1 having played at the Eastbourne Open.

World no. 133 Marcelo Tomás Barrios Vera won a five-set thriller against Thiago Seyboth Wild in the third qualifying round on Thursday to make it into the main draw of Wimbledon for the second time in his career.

The 25-year-old Chilean, who lost in the opening round of his Wimbledon debut in 2021, began his qualifying campaign with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Evgeny Donskoy. He then ousted Australia’s Rinky Hijikata 7-6, 7-6 in the second qualifying round.

In the final qualifying round, Barrios beat the Brazilian Wild 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

This will be Barrios’s third main draw appearance in a Grand Slam. He has yet to win an opening round contest though.

Like Baez, he too is at his best on clay. He has featured in four Challenger finals this year, all on clay, winning two of those titles.

He is 2-2 at the tour level. Can he bring the qualifying round form to the main draw?
