They played once before and Bonzi won that match comfortably.

Bonzi Winless On Grass

Benjamin Bonzi will enter Wimbledon without winning a single match on the surface which is odd. The French player isn’t a bad fit on grass as his skillset fits rather well with the surface. He’s got a powerful serve and a good forehand.

His level on the surface in the past was rather good as he has 18 wins and only 9 losses. Two of those happened this year as he lost both of the matches he played on grass this year. It’s part of a wider struggle that’s been going on this year.

Bonzi is only 12-11 on the year which isn’t that great and he’s certainly capable of playing better. He’s a streaky player so most of that has to do with his confidence as he lost a bit of it this year. His last win came on April 10th so it’s been a long time.

This is a good matchup to finally get that monkey off his back so expect him to come out motivated. He has better tools than Mayot and won their only match so far.

Mayot Qualifies for First Wimbledon

Harold Mayot is playing his first Wimbledon after successfully going through the qualifiers. Three wins on the surface were impressive considering that he didn’t really play on the surface before. He came straight from clay and immediately made an impact.

Mayot is an up-and-coming player who has some nice tools and is actually a rather solid fit on grass. He can go forward which is a big bonus in today’s era of baseliners.

The year has been pretty solid for him with 18 wins in 36 matches as he slowly makes his way to the top 100. His career in some ways looks like Bonzi’s as he too had a slow rise before he finally made it to the top 100. One thing that could hurt him in this matchup is his lack of experience.

Those three matches were the only grass ones he played and Bonzi has far more experience. A lack of general power from the baseline is another thing that could hurt him but he should still put together a really solid effort.

Bonzi v Mayot Prediction and Tip

Bonzi is out of form and very streaky making this a rather volatile one to predict. I do think he should win but I could see Mayot win the match too. He’s actually favoured which I’m a bit iffy about but over 3,5 sets seems like a solid safe bet.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 3,5 sets in the match: 1/2
