Gracheva Hoping to Turn Poor Grass Record Around

Since she last competed at Wimbledon, Gracheva has changed her nationality.

Formerly playing for Russia, the country where she was born, she has just been granted French citizenship.

That, though, came almost a year after she was forced to miss this Championship because of the ban on Russian and Belarussian players, although she may not have been hopeful of great success anyway.

Gracheva’s one previous appearance in the main draw in 2021 ended in a first round defeat.

Her initial foray on to grass this year did not suggest an improvement was on the cards, as she was beaten in the first round in Berlin.

However, Bad Homburg represented an improvement for her, and she reached the quarter-finals before losing to another Italian Lucia Bonzetti.

Giorgi Was a Semifinalist at Eastbourne

Giorgi has a good Wimbledon record.

Her quarter-final in 2018 represents her best performance in a Grand Slam to date, whilst she has also made the fourth round here, and the third round on three previous occasions.

The Italian’s more recent visits, though, have been less successful, and she ahs only won once at the All-England club since that quarter-final appearance.

The winner of the Rosmalen title back in 2015, since then her tournament victories have mainly come on hard courts, including in Merida, Mexico, in February this year.

Giorgi’s grass court season did not start so well, losing in the second round of Nottingham, and the first round of Birmingham.

However, it picked up in Eastbourne, where she reached the semi-finals, beating Ons Jabeur along the way, before losing in straight sets to Daria Kasatkina.

Gracheva v Giorgi Prediction and Tip

Whilst Girogi’s recent Wimbledon record has been modest, her previous achievements at this tournament suggest that she will be too strong for Gracheva, who has yet to win a match here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Giorgi to win: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 21/20
