World no. 14 Beinda Bencic knocked out local hope Katie Swan in the first round at Wimbledon.
The Swiss player came back from a break down to take the opening set and then dominated the second to beat the wild card 7-5, 6-2 in an hour and 37 minutes.
Th world no. 147 Swan served 11 aces to Bencic’s 2 but could convert just one of four breaking opportunities, while getting broken four times in the match.
Bencic, who was beaten in the first round at Wimbledon in the last two years, has made it to the second round at Wimbledon for the sixth time in her eighth appearance. The Olympic gold medallist has never made it to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, having fallen in the fourth round twice before.
Bencic has been extremely successful this year, winning her seventh and eighth WTA titles in Adelaide-2 and Abu Dhabi respectively. She also reached the final in Charleston (her 18th career final), but went down to Ons Jabeur in the final.
She is a terrific grass court player and has a 1-4 record in grass finals. The first round win over Swan was her first match on grass this year. Expect her to build on the start on Thursday.

Collins Eases Past Grabher
After winning the first set on Monday, Danielle Collins won her second set on Wednesday to seal victory over Julia Grabher in a rain disrupted first round contest.
Collins, the world no. 52, was not broken by the Austrian, as she saved all five of the break points that she faced in the match. In contrast, the American had seven opportunities to break the world no. 58, and she capitalised on two of them to win the match 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 26 minutes.
This is the third time that Collins has made it past the first round at Wimbledon and this is her fifth main draw appearance at SW19.
The win ended a three-match losing streak for Collins. But she doesn’t have a great record on grass and the 2022 Australian Open finalist will have her task cut out in the second round on Thursday.
Bencic v Collins Prediction and Tip
Bencic is the superior player on grass. She has also displayed better form this year and will be the favourite to defeat the American in the second round.
