British number one Kyle Edmund had a breakthrough 2018, but has since had an inconsistent 2019. Edmund’s last few months have been plagued with injuries and indifferent results and he will be looking for more consistency this week onward.
Edmund won the Challenger title at Indian Wells and had a good start to the Masters 1000, before losing to Roger Federer in straight sets. With a powerful game, backed by a majestic forehand, the outdoor hard courts should suit Edmund.
The 19th seed had a tricky opener against Ilya Ivashka from Belarus winning in three sets, but Raonic might just be a mountain too steep to climb.
