Djokovic Quells the Hurkacz Challenge

Djokovic was forced to resume his quarterfinal against Hubert Hurkacz on Monday after having led him two sets to love and then dropped a set before wrapping up the encounter.

In the end, Djokovic won 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-4 to make it another win at Wimbledon as he continues his unbeaten streak which has gone on since 2017.

This is one match, however, in which Hurkacz would be left ruing his chances. For instance, Hurkacz had three set-point opportunities in the first set which he squandered and then was 5-5 in the second set but couldn’t convert it from there.

In fact, Djokovic did not manage a break of serve all match till the seventh game of the fourth set. Following that, the world number two quickly wrapped things off, serving out to love to make it through.

This follows three successive straight-set wins over Pedro Cachin, Jordan Thompson and Stan Wawrinka in the first three rounds of the competition.

Djokovic will be a huge favourite to cruise in this one too.

Rublev Stumbles Through against Bublik

Having never made it past the fourth round at this tournament and after missing the last year’s competition because of the ban on Russian players, Rublev has had a tussle or two so far in this tournament but has finally entered the quarterfinal.

In his fourth round match at Wimbledon this season, Rublev faced a charged up Alexander Bublik and ended up needing three hours and 20 minutes for his five-set win.

Rublev was up two sets to love, lost the next two in tie-breakers despite having a couple of match-points before completing the victory with a break in the seventh game of the final set. The Russian registered a 7-5, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-4 victory to come through in the end.

This follows a straight-set win over Max Purcell in the first round by defeats of Aslan Karatsev and David Goffin in the following two in four.

He now faces a player who hasn’t lost a match at Wimbledon since 2017 which gives us a perspective on how challenging the task would be for Rublev.

Djokovic v Rublev Prediction and Tip

For someone to make it a 100% record at this competition since 2017 speaks volumes about Djokovic’s dominance and there’s not much better against that. We do think that Rublev could sneak in a set here though.

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Rublev to win a set: 1/1
