Grabher On Four-Match Losing Streak

Julia Grabher’s breakthrough moment came on clay at the end of May when she reached her first WTA final in Rabat.

Sadly for the Austrian, she couldn’t crown that moment with the title, as she lost to Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti in a three-set thriller. Nonetheless, her ranking vaulted to inside the top 60 and she could add some valuable ranking points in a very open field in the south of Italy.

The week in Rabat squeezed a lot out of Grabher both mentally and physically with the 27-year-old recording one win in her next five matches and has lost four in a row coming to Palermo.

But it should be noted that one of those defeats came against a top-10 player Coco Gauff at the French Open, and her recent two defeats came on grass – her weakest surface.

So it wouldn’t really come as a surprise to see Grabher find her feet on her return to clay. Grabher has won over 300 matches on the dirt on the pro tour and will look to snap her four-match losing at the earnest when she plays Clara Burel.

Burel Beaten By Lys In Contrexeville

Clara Burel suffered a shock second-round defeat in Contrexeville 125 this past week, losing to World No. 159 Eva Lys in three sets.

It was a flat performance that came on the back of a straight-sets win over Barbora Palicova.

But on a broader view, it could be a blessing in disguise as it gives the Frenchwoman ample time to recharge for the 250 event in Palermo.

Prior to Contrexeville, Burel won W60 ITF in Montpellier on clay – her first title of any note since 2021. She jumped straight into the draw in Contrexeville, despite having less than two days of rest time.

Outside Wimbledon, where she lost in the second round of qualifying, Burel had actually been in decent form on red clay. She made the semifinal at the WTA 250 event in Strasbourg beating the veteran duo of Cirstea and Kanepi before losing to eventual champion Svitolina.

She had a harrowing draw at Roland Garros drawing the short straw in the shape of Sorribes Tormo who sent her packing. But she has since won six of her next seven matches, with the only stain coming in Contrexeville.

Grabher v Burel Prediction and Tip

Expecting this one to be tightly contested. Both players needed a break after a heavy schedule on clay. We’re leaning with the games here, with a slight edge to the in-form Burel outright.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
