Andrianjafitrimo Makes It Through the Qualifiers

About a year ago, Andrianjafitrimo was ranked 139th in the world, her career-best number thanks to her performances on the ITF circuit. She had managed to win a title at that level, made it to one other final and two more semifinals there.

Unfortunately for Andrianjafitrimo, things haven’t quite gone her way since and she has fallen to 388th on the WTA charts as a result.

In fact, she hasn’t made it to a single ITF-level semifinal this season with her best showing being a few quarterfinal appearances.

In making it to the main draw here though, Andrianjafitrimo has had to overcome Katarina Zavatska, who was a 1/5 favourite going into their match. Andrianjafitrimo overcame the odds to register a shock win there before edging past Francesca Curmi in three sets.

Can she now put up a strong showing in what will be a rare entry into the main draw of a WTA event?

Brancaccio Interested in Clay Alone?

Much like her opponent, Brancaccio also made it through to the main draw here through the qualifying route. But her path was a lot easier with Brancaccio winning both her matches for a total of five games lost.

Those two wins against Quinn Gleason and Deborah Chiesa came on the back of four successive defeats before that, making this entry into the main draw even more special for Brancaccio.

And clay is Brancaccio’s most preferred surface by some distance too.

This year itself, from the 40 matches she has played just three have come outside of clay. She is 23-14 on clay – which has mostly been on the lower circuit – which includes a quarterfinal appearance at the Bogota Open.

She will hold a good chance of making it through to the second round here given her opponent’s overall ranking struggles.

Andrianjafitrimo v Brancaccio Prediction and Tip

Brancaccio starts off a 3/5 favourite and on clay it’s tough to see her shank this.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Brancaccio to win: 3/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
