Baindl Cruises in Her Opener

Kateryna Baindl faced a native player in round one and it proved a rather easy win for the Ukrainian. The score might not be the most impressive at 6-4 7-5 but she really didn’t face too much trouble in terms of possibly losing a set or the match.

Bainld has been a solid veteran for a while even though this year has been rather poor. Only had 20 matches so far and only 7 wins which is far from the 37-28 level she had last year. Clay has been a very good surface for her in the past but not that great this year.

Facing Toth will be a bit tricky as the Hungarian can play well on this surface but Baindl is still expected to take care of business.

If she plays anything like she did in the opening set then it’s widely expected that she will win the match. Baseline play will be crucial.

Toth Advances Amidst Controversy

Amarissa Toth is probably the most infamous tennis player on Tour right now as the Hungarian advanced following the retirement of her opponent. What proceeded the retirement was a bad call against Zhang that favoured Toth with the Huganrian demonstrating unsportsmanlike conduct.

Many in the tennis community have blasted her publicly though she won’t have too much backlash while playing on native soil. It’s been an okay year so far for her with 15 wins and 11 losses but most of those matches didn’t feature a player with the talent of Baindl.

She’s ranked outside of the top 500 and that tells you on what level she generally plays. Winning this would take a huge undertaking and some of the best tennis she is able to play but she did hang on against Zhang fairly well so perhaps she can do it.

She will need to resist the baseline pressure well if she hopes to win. That’s the crucial part.

Baindl v Toth Prediction and Tip

It’s widely expected that Baindl wins this one and while I do think she will, I think Toth could certainly complicate matters a bit.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
