After double-bagelling Sara Errani in her first round match, Zheng had gone into her next encounter against Diane Parry as a 1/4 favourite.
And while she did win the match, Zheng was pushed to the corner by Parry before the Chinese woman came through in a match that went on for two hours and 48 minutes.
Qinwen won 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 despite being broken three times in the match. In fact at one stage, Parry looked like she had the upper hand when she served for a 3-1 lead in the deciding set only to be broken back by Qinwen.
From there on, the match went on serve till the seventh game before Qinwen broke for the second time in the set in the eighth game and served out to love in the next.
Having already made the quarterfinal at the Italian Open earlier this year, Qinwen will now be baying for another instance of three successive wins on clay. Standing in her path is a player has been in top touch in this tournament.

Navarro Continues Her Good Run
Having made the final of the WTA 125 event in Bastad last week, Navarro continued her excellent brand of tennis when she registered her second successive victory here to reach the quarterfinal of this event.
In doing so, Navarro has now jumped to 52nd on the live WTA Rankings and could be a win away from breaking into the top 50 for the first time in her career.
Navarro did that with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Camilla Rosatello in her second round match, with the encounter failing to last for a lot more than an hour in the end. Having earlier defeated Eva Vedder in the opening round in straight sets too, Navarro faced – and saved – just one break-point while getting past her opponent’s serve on four occasions.
She will now face a far tougher opponent in Zheng but with the confidence that Navarro has, she could be looking to get herself into a strong position.
