Trevisan v Kalieva Preview

Head-to-Head: No previous matches

Former Roland Garros semi-finalist Martina Trevisan is not having the best season as her level has been all over the place, particularly on clay. She’s posted only four wins on clay so far, less than she had at Roland Garros last year alone and actually won only 11 matches so far in total.

Kalieva has had the opposite year as the 19-year-old is playing really solid tennis and building up her career. She has 29 wins on clay this year and has played her best tennis so far on the surface. Most of those wins didn’t come at the top level of tennis so be wary of that.

Trevisan is the far more experienced player and is still the heavy favourite despite recent struggles. She hasn’t won a match since May but put forward a solid effort in Palermo last week. Kalieva has played pretty solid overall though her level goes up and down which is normal for a young player.

Expect Trevisan to grind out a win in three sets here.

Trevisan v Kalieva Tip

Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6

Camila Osorio v Kamilla Rakhimova Preview

Head-to-Head: Osorio 1-0 (Belgrade 2021)

Camila Osorio defeated Rakhimova in their only matchup as it happened in 2021 on clay. The Colombian is a very aggressive and fine player on clay doing some damage on other surfaces as well. Her main issue is that she’s been very streaky but most players are like that.

Rakhimova is a similar player though her consistency seems to be even less predictable. She’s less aggressive and has more of a balanced game with some variety which isn’t the case for her opponent. Rakhimova’s last win came at Roland Garros at the end of May and since then she’s largely struggled losing a couple of matches.

Osorio won last week in Palermo and she seems to be in better form. She also had the better year out of the two players which is why she’s favoured. I do think that she’s going to win but I could see Rakhimova give her some trouble. The over seems like a decent tip.

Osorio v Rakhimova Tip

Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6

Nadia Podoroska v Viktoriya Tomova Preview

Head-to-Head: Podoroska 1-0 (2016 Bucharest)

Nadia Podoroska and Viktoriya Tomova played once a long time ago in Bucharest. It was a win for the Argentine as they played on clay, the surface she favours. Tomova was never bad on it and grew to be quite good on it in recent years but Podoroska is a former Roland Garros semi-finalist and that says something.

They had a pretty similar season so far as Tomova won 27 matches out of 48 she played while Podoroska won 26 of 47 matches she played. Both won mostly on clay though the percentage of wins is higher for Podoroska. In short, they’re at a similar level though on clay Podoroska seems to hold a minor edge.

The form seems to favour Podoroska as well as she made the semi-final of the event she played last week while Tomova was beaten early. The players Podoroska faced were also tougher on paper so she seems to be playing a bit better right now.

The odd is solid so we’re backing Podoroska to win.

Podoroska v Tomova Tip

Podoroska to win the match: 4/6

Arantxa Rus v Maria Timofeeva Preview

Head-to-Head: No previous matches.

Arantxa Rus is a very solid veteran that is still capable of producing an incredible level at times. After all, she is 44-12 on the year with a brutal 35-7 record on clay. It’s always been a good surface for her because it allows her to unleash the raw power she possesses in her game.

Timofeeva is an up and coming player who caught fire in Budapest last week. She stunned a few experienced players to book a final at the event and we’ll see if she can get it done. Either way that run doesn’t help her here because she’s going to come to Hamburg quite exhausted.

Rus will have the advantage of being well-rested and has plenty of experience to navigate this match the way she needs to. Timofeeva has been great but I don’t she has what it takes to overcome the quick turnaround so early in her career.

I expect her to put up a fight but ultimately Rus will prevail and likely win in two sets. I wouldn’t recommend it because Rus can play volatile tennis at times but her winning should be good enough.

Rus v Timofeeva Tip

Rus to win the match: 2/5
