Amanda Anisimova vs Saisai Zheng Head to Head

The head to head tally is currently tied at 1-1.

They last met in the 2019 WTA San Jose, where Zheng won in three sets. As for Anisimova’s sole win over the Chinese, it came back in the 2018 WTA Hiroshima.

Anisimova in her First WTA Match of the Season

The 19-year-old Amanda Anisimova will officially start her WTA Tour in Doha this week, following her absence in the Australian Open Series.

In a bid to prepare and get some momentum, the American last played in an ITF event in the USA, where she withdrew from her second-round match against Clair Liu.

Anisimova, currently ranked World No. 32, had a decent run on the tour last year and had it not been for the interruptions owing to the pandemic, she possibly could have done better. Her highlights include a semifinal run in the ASB Classic in Auckland and third-round appearances in the French Open and US Open.

The teenager was absolutely killing it on the tour in 2019 when she won her maiden singles title in Colombia and later reached the semifinal at the Roland Garros. However, following the death of her father in late August, she understandably didn’t compete that much on the tour for the rest of the year. Nonetheless, Anisimova managed to peak at World No. 21.

Zheng Looking to Snap her Losing Streak

As things stand right now, Saisai Zheng is on a four-match losing streak on the tour. She last played in the Adelaide International where she was beaten by Danielle Collins in the first round.

She had incurred a similar fate in the Phillip Island Trophy in Melbourne too, where she succumbed to Francesca Jones – a player ranked in the 200s – in three sets in the opener. It was the same story in the Australian Open and Gippsland Trophy, she lost respectively to Barbora Krejcikova and Irina-Camelia Begu.

In fact, if we are to track Zheng’s last win on the WTA Tour, it came, coincidentally, in the Qatar Open last year. Back then, she made it to the quarterfinal after beating the likes of Vera Zvonareva and Kiki Bertens.

Zheng is currently World No. 47 and has only two singles titles to her name. She has had more success on the doubles circuit as she was the runner-up on a couple of occasions last year. Partnered with Duan Yingying and Krejcikova respectively, she reached the final at the Shenzhen Open and Dubai Championships.

Anisimova vs Zheng Prediction and Tip

As a prodigy in the making, Anisimova has the talent and skills needed to reach the next round. Plus, given her opponent’s recent abysmal form, she should be able to register a win here by taking advantage of that.

Tip: Anisimova to win: 8/11 (bet365)
