Cori Gauff v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the 2021 Adelaide International where Gauff won in three sets.

Gauff Cruises Against Noskova

A title winner at the Washington Open and showing great signs of resurrection in Montreal as well, Gauff had fallen in the quarterfinals there against Jessica Pegula. That being said, it was a solid performance from Gauff who managed to ward off the Pegula challenge till very late in that match before going down 5-7 in the decider.

The addition of Brad Gilbert in the coaching staff has continued to work wonders with Gauff displaying another ruthless performance in Cincinnati in her third round match.

Having crushed Mayar Sherif 6-2, 6-2 in the second round following an opening bye, Gauff came away with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Linda Noskova to enter the last eight.

In a match that lasted a mere 63 minutes, Gauff did struggle with her serve in the first set but came through easily in the second set. In fact in a bizarre set of circumstances, there were nine breaks of serves in total in the first set and it was only one hold from Gauff that tilted the set in her favour.

Gauff is in the kind of form that makes her 1/8 (with bet365) quite what we would think would be the case too.

Paolini Gets Lucky with Rybakina Injury

Last Saturday, Paolini was down a set in her first round of qualifiers against Rebecca Masarova and it looked like she was on her way out. Things have turned around dramatically for the Italian since then and here we are, nearly a week on with Paolini set to feature in her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal.

Paolini, who will break into the top 40 for the first time when the WTA Rankings are released next week, had entered her match against Elena Rybakina as a distant second favourite (she was 33/10 odds with bet365) and even lost the first set.

In the second, however, she was 5-2 up when Rybakina called it quits, presumably because of a shoulder injury.

As a result now, Paolini, who had cruised past Marta Kostyuk and Cristian Bucsa in the first two rounds, will face off against Gauff in what will be her toughest match of the tournament. She enters the match without too much to lose though.

Gauff v Paolini Prediction and Tip

Given Gauff’s form, it’s tough to see a result other than a straight-set win for the American.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Gauff to win in straight sets: 4/9 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 18.5 games in the match: 10/11 (with bet365)
