Alcaraz Fumbles to a Win over Paul

Tommy Paul has been a thorn in Alcaraz’s flesh, having defeated him last week at the Canadian Masters. This time around, they faced off in the third round and it looked like Paul wasn’t going to make life any easier for Alcaraz yet again.

In a match lasting three hours and 14 minutes, Alcaraz was broken four times but managed to come through 7-6 (6), 6-7 (0), 6-3 in a see-sawing encounter.

The American was 5-2 up in the first set but Alcaraz edged past his serve to push it into a tie-breaker. And even there, Alcaraz was pushed to the corner at 3-5 before taking the lead.

The second set saw Paul grab a break of serve in the third and the seventh game but was broken back in the very next game. He then had a chance to serve it out in the 10th game when he overcame Alcaraz’s serve for the third time, missed a set-point and then faced three match-points.

In the tie-breaker that followed, there was no looking back as Paul grabbed a 7-0 win to force a decider.

Fortunately for Alcaraz, he did not face too many issues in the third, and a break of serve in the first and the ninth game ended Paul’s journey.

Alcaraz will now be a 1/10 favourite (with bet365) here against his Aussie opponent but can he live up to those odds?

Purcell Eases Past Wawrinka

It’s been one of the best runs of his career with Purcell having already made it five wins in a row including two in the qualifiers to reach the last eight.

In the third round, Purcell extinguished Stan Wawrinka’s chances with a lopsided 6-4, 6-2 win in a match that lasted a mere hour and 13 minutes. Such was Purcell’s dominance, he faced a mere two break-points in the encounter while overcoming his opponent’s serve on three occasions from the nine chances he got.

This win comes on the back of a couple of three-setters against Luka Van Assche and Alexei Popyrin to make the main draw and victories against Lloyd Harris and Casper Ruud in the following two rounds.

Against Wawrinka, Purcell 9/5 (with bet365) to win it and the manner in which he did it could give him supreme confidence. Because against Alcaraz, he will need that and oodles of it.

Alcaraz v Purcell Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz has had a few challenges against him here and it might not be too different for him here either.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
