Tommy Paul v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

It will be the first meeting between the 22-year-old Paul and the 27-year-old Fucsovics.

Paul Holds Nerves To Beat Dimitrov

Never past the first round of a Grand Slam, American Tommy Paul reached the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday after holding his nerves to beat 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov in an exhilarating four-hour-and-19-minute contest that swung from one end to the other.

The 2015 French Open boy’s champion raced to a two set lead, before Dimitrov came back into the contest, taking the next two sets. The Bulgarian, serving for the match at 5-4 in the deciding set, was two points away from victory when Paul recovered remarkably, breaking Dimitrov to make it 5-5.

Back in the contest, the American took control of the proceedings and went on to win 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (10-3).

The fast-improving Paul, who won three Challenger tournaments and finished runner up once in 2019, has had a brilliant start to 2020. He won five matches on the trot in Adelaide reaching the semifinals as a qualifier before being beaten by Lloyd Harris.

In Melbourne, he begun with a four-set win over Argentine Leonardo Mayer, before notching up his second win on Wednesday. Up next will be Hungarian Marton Fucsvics, who himself has had a good start to the tournament.

Fucsovics Eases Past Sinner

Having begun the campaign with an upset four-set win over 13th seed Canadian Denis Shapovalov, 27-year-old Fucsvics breezed past 2019 Next Gen ATP Finals champion Jannik Sinner in straight sets on Wednesday.

The match that lasted two hours and 16 minutes ended with the Hungarian winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

The 2019 Sofia Open finalist, Fucsovics had reached the fourth round of the Australian Open two years ago (his best-ever showing at a grand slam) before being knocked out by eventual champion Roger Federer. Last year, Borna Coric ended his campaign in the second round.

The 2018 Geneva Open champion will now be aiming for a second last 16 berth in only his third main draw appearance in Melbourne.

Tommy Paul v Marton Fucsovics Predictions & Tips

Before the tournament, neither of the two were given a chance to reach this far. It was supposed to be a Shapovalov-Dimitrov matchup, but both Paul and Fucsovics defied the odds to reach the Round of 32. Both have shown they are determined, ready to fight and hungry to succeed. Expect an engaging battle on Friday with Fucsovics having a slight edge over his younger opponent, thanks to his past experience in Melbourne. The Hungarian should win this one in a hard-fought four-setter.
