Hubert Hurkacz v Peter Gojowczyk Head to Head

This will be the first time that the two players will be going face to face in a competitive match.

Another Chance for Hurkacz to Achieve Career High Ranking

The 23-year-old Polish star had the chance to achieve his career-best ranking when he played John Isner at the Cincinnati Masters a few days ago.

His lack of match fitness, however, was visible as he went down in straight sets to the big-hitting American. Now he has another chance to achieve the feat and potentially move into the top 25 with a win here.

Hurkacz crashed out in the first round here at the Flushing Meadows last year and he will be relishing his chances in the first round this year.

His season started on a positive note when he reached the last four at the Auckland Open. But a second-round exit at the Australian Open followed by early exits from Rotterdam, Dubai and Marseille dampened a bright start. He has played a number of exhibition events during the season suspension but most of it was on the clay courts.

A first-round win against a low ranked opponent might just do the trick for him and get his confidence back. His best run at the tournament was back in 2018 when he reached the second round.

Gojowczyk Lucky to Get into the Main Draw

It was certain a few days earlier that the German player will have to grind it out in the qualifiers to get to the main draw at the US Open. But Frenchman Lucas Pouille’s late withdrawal from the tournament due to the current pandemic and his elbow injury meant that the door opened for the 31-year-old.

Even though Gojowyczyk is currently ranked 126 in the world, he was as high as 39 in the world rankings a few seasons ago. He won the Metz Open in 2017 and reached the main draw of all four Grand Slams a year later.

He also beat Jack Sock in 2018 who was world number eight at the time. But injuries and loss of form meant that his rankings tumbled outside the top 100. But he is still more than capable to produce great results on his day.

He will be looking to cause an unlikely upset here and match his best showing at the tournament. He reached the second round back in 2013 and 2014.

Hubert Hurkacz v Peter Gojowczyk Prediction & Tip

Even though Gojowyczyk has it in him to beat the Polish youngster, it is unlikely that it will be the case this time around. Hurkacz has played impressive tennis in patches this season and the German comes up against him at the right time. It should be a comfortable win for Hurkacz to take him to the next round.

Tip: Hurkacz to win in straight sets: 2/1 (bet365)
