Evans In The Form Of His Life

British No.1 Dan Evans is playing some of the best tennis of his career right now as he gears up for a big fortnight at the 2020 US Open.

The man from West Midlands put together a tremendous start to the year by winning three of his four singles matches at the inaugural ATP Cup where he steered Great Britain to the quarterfinals. He also made quarterfinals or better in three of his next four tournaments – his only blemish in an otherwise brilliant first quarter being a second round exit at the Australian Open.

His terrific run of results which included a first semifinal at an ATP 500 event in Dubai earlier in February saw him attain a career-high ranking of World No.28.

It will be just the second time in his career that Evans will be seeded at a Grand Slam, and he has turned a few heads among them former No.1 Andy Murray who has backed the 30-year-old to make a deep run at the US Open.

Evans has made three trips to Flushing Meadows previously, with a pair of third rounds being his best appearance. Can he live to the billing and pre-tournament hype as he opens up his campaign?

Seyboth Wild Raring To Go After Covid-19 Recovery

Thiago Seyboth Wild made plenty of headlines in a roller-coaster year. The talented young Brazilian received a wilcard into the Santiago main draw in late February, and stunningly upset the top two seeds in the tournament en route to lifting his maiden ATP title.

Seyboth Wild’s success in the Chilean capital was a surprise to many having scored just a solitary match win in 2020 when he arrived in Santiago. But he found his form in a hurry. He scaled through a murderer’s row of clay-court players including Facundo Bagnis, Juan Ignacio Londero and Cristian Garin.

The 20-year-old however, was both halted and afflicted as he became the first pro tennis player reported to have contracted the novel coronavirus after the tour shut down on 8th March at Indian Wells. He has since made a full recovery, and has been quarantining at his home in Rio.

With a US Open junior’s title to his name, this will be his first match on hard courts since the Australian Open in January.

Evans v Seyboth Wild Prediction & Tip

Nobody wants to play Dan Evans right off the bat, and certainly not when he is in such great form. He has been one of the tour’s most consistent and performing players in the last 18 months.

And to back this up with a very impressive stat, the Brit has only lost seven first round matches since the beginning of 2019. Expect this to be a walk in the park for the World No.28 against an opponent who might take time to get things going.

Tip: Evans to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
