Barbora Krejcikova v Victoria Azarenka Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one apiece. Azarenka won at the 2020 Ostrava Open while Krejcikova was a winner at the 2022 Australian Open.

Krejcikova in Her First Match Since Wimbledon

Krejcikova had lost a bit of her on-court sparkle as the former world number two fell to a season-low of 30th in the world late in February.

Since then, however, the Czech player has slowly but surely found a way to get some of her rhythm back as she has gone on to win the WTA Dubai title. In the process Krejcikova defeated the likes of Daria Kasatkina, Petra Kvitova, Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek in what would rank as one of the best tournament victories of the season.

She would make the final of the Birmingham International as well. While Krejcikova was shocked by Mirra Andreeva in the second round at Wimbledon she enters the hardcourt swing with a 15-6 win-loss record for the season on this surface.

Which is what she would need against a player of the calibre of Azarenka.

Azarenka Hoping for Full Fitness

Azarenka was a heavy favourite before her second round encounter match at the Canadian Open against Sloane Stephens. Unfortunately for her, she was forced to withdraw from that match because of a re-injury. In Azarenka’s words as she made the announcement:

“Dear fans, I am sorry to say, but I have unfortunate news that during my warm up for tonight’s match, I re-injured a lingering injury that I thought was resolved.”

What this means is for starters we are still to get a confirmation if she is fit enough to feature in Cincinnati – or will a lucky loser take her place. Secondly, even if she does go on to participate in the tournament, Azarenka will hope she can be match-fit enough against a player of Krejcikova’s calibre.

Earlier this year, Azarenka had made it all the way to the semifinal of the Australian Open and is 12-8 on win-loss on hardcourt surfaces.

Can she overcome Krejcikova in this encounter?
