Ons Jabeur v Donna Vekic Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Jabeur leads 3-1. All four matches came in hardcourt competitions with the last one having been played in 2019.

Jabeur Scrapes Past Kalinina

In her first match since going down fighting at the Wimbledon final, Jabeur looked like she had kept up to her favourites tag in her second round match against Anhelina Kalinina.

A strong fighting performance from Kalinina, however, kept Jabeur at bay for two hours and 44 minutes before the Tunisian player came through in a third set tie-breaker.

Having started out a 3/10 (with bet365) favourite in the encounter, Jabeur eased through the first set, losing a mere six points on her own serve. And when she broke Kalinina early in the second set, the writing looked to be on the wall.

Except that Kalinina retaliated with a couple of breaks in return and while Jabeur still had a chance to serve out the match at 5-4, Kalinina broke for a third time to force a tie-breaker. The Ukrainian player then ran away with it to level things out.

Kalinina had a golden chance to shock Jabeur when she broke thrice in a row to lead 5-1 only for the world number five to retaliate with two beaks of serves. Having lost out on a golden opportunity, Kalinina faded away in the tie-breaker that followed.

Jabeur will need to serve a lot better than the six breaks of serves that went against her in this match as she starts off a 1/2 favourite (with bet365) against Vekic.

Vekic Stuns Azarenka

Having begun as a second-favourite against a player who loves her time in hardcourt competitions, Vekic looked like she was on her way out when she lost the first set.

A sterling comeback in the second, however, put Vekic back on track against Victoria Azarenka before she earned herself three break-points in the decider to clinch the win. Vekic managed to convert two of those to come through 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in her second round match.

After having scraped past Jennifer Brady in the first round, Vekic always knew she was up against it and when she dropped her serve five times in a row in the opening set, it looked like Azarenka was on her way to an easy win.

In the second set, the two players traded early breaks before Vekic got her foot into the encounter before forcing the door open.

Can the 8/5 (with bet365) underdog turn things around in her favour against Jabeur?

Jabeur v Vekic Prediction and Tip

Jabeur will be our pick here despite her scratchy opening performance. She had the game to beat Vekic multiple times a few years ago and now has improved even more to come through.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Jabeur to win: 1/2 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
