Alexander Zverev v Adrian Mannarino Head to Head

This is quite a one-sided head to head with Zverev leading Mannarino 7-0. All seven matches have come in either indoor or outdoor hardcourt competitions with their last meeting having come at the Montpellier Open last year.

Zverev Ousts Medvedev

In a minor shock, Zverev registered a win over the world number three Daniil Medvedev to enter the quarterfinal of this event for only the second time in his career.

Zverev, who had gone into his third round match against Medvedev as a 5/3 (with bet365) underdog, claimed his place in the last with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over his opponent.

The match lasted over two and a half hours and saw Zverev edge past Medvedev thanks to his ability to win the big points.

In the very first set, Zverev had five break-points, of which he converted the last one and then saved three of them off his own serve in the very next game. Medvedev came back to clinch the second set before he had two break-points in the eighth game of the decider to go 5-3 up.

Zverev held serve and then off the very next game, he broke Medvedev again before going ahead to win the encounter.

This win follows victories over Grigor Dimitor and Yoshihito Nishioka in the first two rounds and a title win not so long ago on clay. A place in the top-10 again looks to be calling.

Mannarino Helped by McDonald Retirement

In Mackenzie McDonald’s previous round, he had been aided by Holger Rune’s injury and eventual retirement. Unfortunately for him, he suffered the same fate in his third round match and this time around it was Mannarino who was the beneficiary.

Mannarino, who has been having the time of his life on court this season, led 6-4, 3-0 before McDonald threw in the towel, allowing the Frenchman to make it to the quarterfinal at the Cincinnati Masters for the first time in his career.

This follows straight-set victories for Mannarino over Richard Gasquet and Felix Auger-Aliassime in his first two rounds.

More importantly, it follows successive first round defeats in the first two North American hardcourt competitions in Washington and Toronto. Can he now overturn his poor record against Zverev which is the reason why he starts off a 3/1 (with bet365) underdog in the encounter?

Zverev v Mannarino Prediction and Tip

Zverev is in far too good a touch to mess this up we feel but Mannarino could put up a fight given all that has happened this season for him.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 5/6 (with bet365)
