Aryna Sabalenka v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

Sabalenka leads Jabeur 3-2, but Jabeur won their most recent meeting, at last month’s Wimbledon semifinals.

Sabalenka Knocks out Kasatkina

Last year’s semifinalist Aryna Sabalenka reached the quarterfinal in Cincinnati for the third time in her career as she knocked out Daria Kasatkina in the round of 16 on Thursday.

The world no. 2, who was halted in the round of 16 in Montreal last week, needed and hour and 39 minutes to see off the world no. 13 on Thursday.

Sabalenka saved 4 of 6 break points and converted 5 of 9 to beat Kasatkina 6-3, 6-3. She also had a tough second round contest, as she needed three sets to beat Ann Li 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.

The second seed will be looking to reach her third semifinal in Cincinnati. A champion at the Australian Open, Madrid Open and Adelaide International this year, and a runner-up in Indian Wells and Stuttgart, Sabalenka has had a tremendous year so far and Thursday’s win improved her season record to 43-9.

Can she reach the season’s eighth semifinal with a win on Friday?

Jabeur Advances as Vekic Retires

Playing for the first time since her second straight runner-up finish at Wimbledon, Ons Jabeur finds herself in the quarterfinal of the Cincinnati Open.

The fifth seed however had an easy pass to her second quarterfinal in Cincinnati though, as her round of 16 opponent Donna Vekic pulled out of the contest while trailing 2-5 in the first set.

There was rain delay after the first seven games of the match, and that’s when the Croatian pulled out due to an illness.

Jabeur, who had a first round bye, had won her second round match against Anhelina Kalinina in three sets. It was a tough contest that lasted two hours and 44 minutes before the Tunisian prevailed 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-2).

The 28-year-old world no. 5 is 24-10 this season and that includes her fourth career title in Charleston and a runner-up finish in Wimbledon.

She is into a quarterfinal for the sixth time in 2023. Can she reach a fifth semifinal of the season with a win Friday?

Sabalenka v Jabeur Prediction and Tip

Having gone down to Jabeur in the Wimbledon semifinal, Sabalenka will be looking to get her revenge. She has been far more successful on hard courts than the Tunisian, particularly this year. While Jabeur is 6-4 on the surface, Sabalenka is 23-4 in 2023. So, Sabalenka will be a slight favourite to advance.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sabalenka to win: 1/2 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
