Anna Blinkova v Lin Zhu Head to Head
It’s 1-1 between the two ladies; they last met in Beijing in 2019 in the qualifying rounds. Blinkova won that match 6-4, 6-2.

Russia’s Anna Blinkova has had a season to remember. The 24-year-old recently made it to a career-high singles ranking of World No. 34 and is set to start in Tennis in the Land as the number eight seed.
She has been hard at work, with Cleveland set to be her fourth North American tournament in as many weeks. The results, however, have been highly underwhelming – with a second-round showing in Montreal being her best run. In Washington DC and Cincinnati most recently, Blinkova was beaten in the opening rounds – respectively, by Clervie Ngounoue and Petra Kvitova.
What’s also missing from Blinkova’s oeuvre in 2023 is a singles title. She has come close on a couple of occasions – notably reaching the semifinal in Hobart and emerging as the runner-up in Strasbourg.
All in all, her record stands at 25-21 as she continues to field a fair bit of momentum.

Zhu in a Rut
Lin Zhu of China has arrived in Cleveland on the back of a four-match losing streak.
This rut started in Warsaw last month, where she fell in round two to Laura Siegemund. This was followed by first-round defeats in Prague, Cincinnati, and Montreal at the hands of Yanina Wickmayer, Karolina Pliskova, and Anhelina Kalinina.
But this isn’t to say Lin hasn’t had her moments in 2023. Now ranked World No. 47, the 29-year-old enjoyed a good start to the season – quarterfinal in Auckland, round four in the Australian Open (beating Maria Sakkari in round three) and her title run in the Thailand Open.
After that, she made it to a couple of semifinals on the tour – Monterrey and Birmingham.
With 18 wins to 16 defeats, Lin does face a big task of overcoming Blinkova here.

Blinkova starts as the odds-on favourite, but this match can very well go either way. Expect a cracking affair.
