Tallon Griekspoor v Jack Draper Head to Head

Griekspoor and Draper have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Griekspoor at Career-Best Despite Three-Match Losing Streak

After getting knocked out in the first round at Wimbledon by Marton Fucsovics, Griekspoor returned to a brilliant run at the Washington Open in what was his first North American hardcourt swing competition of this period.

The Dutchman overcame JJ Wolf and Taylor Fritz to force his way into the final before Dan Evans ended his run in the title-decider.

What that performance also helped Griekspoor with was to push him up to 25th in the world – his best ever ranking. And had he had a good couple of results in the two Masters 1000 tournaments that followed, Griekspoor could have even broken into the top 20.

Instead, he was drawn to face Alexander Zverev in the first round of the Canadian Masters and then Frances Tiafoe in the opener at the Cincinnati Open. He lost both, but not before he had put up a fight.

What’s interesting to note is that despite his performances this year, he still starts at 10/11 (with bet365) odds to win this opener.

Draper Returns with Easy Win

Having hit a career-best ranking of 38th in the world earlier this year, Draper was ranked 49th on the ATP charts after he was forced to quit from the first round of the French Open because of a shoulder injury.

The Brit was out of action for nearly three before returning on the Challenger circuit with a quarterfinal showing at the Winnipeg Challenger. While he would have been expected to do a lot better there given the kind of competition on display, Draper had shown his fitness was back to its best again.

Which is why it came as no surprise that he managed to power his way to an easy win over Nuno Borges in the first round here.

Starting out a 2/5 favourite with bet365 to overcome Borges, Draper cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win and seal his second round berth. And while he now faces a 25th-ranked, there’s not much to choose given Draper himself was a top-40 player before he was ruled out because of his injury.

Griekspoor v Draper Prediction and Tip

Griekspoor has done well all of this year but his three-match losing streak weighs heavily against a player who has been tipped to become the British number one in the times to come. Backing a three-setter than goes Draper’s way.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Draper to win: 10/11 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
