Emil Ruusuvuori v Max Purcell Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players with Ruusuvuori having won them both. Both came in hardcourt competitions – in the qualifiers of the 2020 Astana Open and the first round of the Australian Open earlier this year.

Having featured in all the three North American hardcourt tournaments he could have in the lead-up to the US Open so far, Ruusuvuori has done well in two of them.
He started off his journey at the Washington Open where he made the third round before Grigor Dimitrov got the better of him. And while Ruusuvuori was bundled out of the Canadian Masters in the very first round by Marcos Giron despite starting out an 11/20 favourite (with bet365), he came back strongly at the Cincinnati Masters last week.
Ruusuvuori eased past Corentin Moutet in the opener there before edging past Andrey Rublev in a longish, three-setter that had two tie-breakers in it. He failed to recover in time for his third round encounter though and was sent out by Alexei Popyrin.
All said and done, Ruusuvuori has had a decent run on these surfaces after having entered the Washington Open on the back of five successive losses. Can he now tame someone who has seen a change of fortunes himself?

Purcell Crushes Cecchinato
Not much was expected from Marco Cecchinato when he took to court against the in-form Purcell and for once the match lived up to its pre-tournament odds.
Purcell, who was a whopping 1/10 to overcome his opponent, did so in two easy sets to seal his second round berth alongside Ruusuvuori.
In a match that lasted a mere 69 minutes, Purcell coasted to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Cecchinato with the world number 47 facing a mere one break-point in the encounter and saving it with ease. He lost a mere nine points on his own serve in the match while breaking his opponent four times from the six chances he got.
This win follows Purcell’s quarterfinal run in Cincinnati last week where he took Carlos Alcaraz to three sets. He might be a 13/10 (with bet365) underdog but we could see him come up trumps too given his form and confidence.

Ruusuvuori is a 3/5 favourite with bet365 but we think that gives us a good chance on Purcell who has risen from a low of 220th to his current 47th rank thanks to his performances.
