The US Open swing hasn’t gone according to the plan for the number 31 seed Marie Bouzkova. Despite starting on a strong footing, her performance faltered mid-way – raising questions about her ability to compete well at the Flushing Meadows.
In the Canadian Open, she lost to Daria Kasatkina in round three – after beating Caroline Garcia in the preceding match.
In Cincinnati next, Bouzkova made it to the quarterfinal but retired against Karolina Muchova – trailing 0-3. That said, she made it that far in the WTA 1000 event after beating the likes of Elise Mertens and Jessica Pegula en route.
Looking at Marie’s form in 2023, her singles record stands at 19-20 with notable results – apart from her Cinci QF – coming in Wimbledon and Rome Open (round four).
On the doubles side, Bouzkova fared fairly better, with semifinals in the Italian Open and Wimbledon and a quarterfinal showing in the French Open.

Krueger Hard at Work
Ashlyn Krueger, currently ranked World No. 122, has worked hard this season to gain some experience and build her form.
The 19-year-old is once again set to compete in the main draw of the US Open, which also makes it her first proper Grand Slam event of 2023. In the last two times in New York, she fell in the opener.
As for her recent form in the majors, Krueger failed to move past the qualifiers in London, Paris, and Melbourne.
That said, Ashlyn’s record stands at a respectable 33-21 – courtesy of numerous practice runs in ITF and Challenger events. The youngster has seen some success, too – she was the Champion in Veneto 125 and runner-up in ITF Charlottesville.
All in all, Krueger has got the skill and a bit of momentum to cause an early upset here. It is not too hard to imagine her beating Bouzkova on home turf.
