Rinderknech Struggling on Hard Courts

Arthur Rinderknech would be short of confidence as he heads to the U.S. Open having scored just one win on outdoor hard court in the entire season.

The world no. 73 is 9-16 at the tour level and 20-23 across levels this year. His best this year saw him reach the quarterfinals in Mallorca and Kitzbuhel. While in other tournaments he has been knocked out pretty early.

He has tasted a bit of success at the Challenger level though, winning the Zug Challenger on clay and reaching the semifinals in Pau on indoor courts.

This is the Frenchman’s third main draw appearance at Flushing Meadows. He went past the first round in each of his first two appearances. Can he do that again this year?

Schwartzman Has Had a Woeful Run in 2023

Two-time US Open quarterfinalist has lost a first round match only thrice in his nine Flushing Meadows appearances. In the last two years, he went to the fourth round in 2021 and the third round last year.

So although the Argentine hasn’t done well this year, he will be hoping to raise his game in the final grand slam of the tournament, where he has a 16-9 record.

It is the only major besides the French Open where he has reached the last eight stage, achieving the milestone in 2017 and 2019.

This year, Schwartzman is 9-19 at the tour level and 12-23 overall. As a result of a woeful season, he has fallen from no. 25 at the start of the season to his current ranking of no. 116.

Can Schwartzman find form in New York?

Rinderknech v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

Both players have struggled this season, so no one goes in with a clear advantage over the other. However, Schwartzman has a very good record at the U.S. Open and he will be looking to use that advantage to his advantage in the opener. Expect the Argentine to edge through.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Schwartzman to win: 4/6 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 36.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
