Christopher Eubanks v Benjamin Bonzi Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both matches occurring within a few weeks of each other last year.

Bonzi won on grass at Newport, but Eubanks was victorious in their encounter in Washington.

Eubanks Makes Winning Start Despite Blip

Eubanks would dearly love to emulate his achievements at Wimbledon this year, where he reached the quarter-finals, in his home Grand Slam, and he got his campaign off to a good start with a battling performance against the South Korean Soon-woo Kwon, the world number 104.

The American began the match strongly, one break of serve enough to earn him the first set, although Kwon made him work for it by saving three sets points before finally succumbing.

The second set was very much a carbon copy, with one break enough for the American, against an opponent who barely threatened his own serve.

But, out of nowhere, Eubanks form suddenly evaporated, and he conceded the third set without winning a game, dropping his own serve three times.

Fortunately for him he was able to regroup, and an early break in the fourth set helped get him back on track.

From there he was able  to close out the match, sealing the victory with his third match point,

Wildcard Bonzi Wins All-French Clash

Bonzi needed a wildcard just to take his place in the main draw, but he is now into the second round for the second successive years after coming from behind to beat compatriot Quentin Halys, the world number 70.

In a first set largely dominated by serve, it was Bonzi who earned the first break points, but he was unable to convert any of them, and paid the price just as a tie-break loomed, by dropping his own serve.

However, an early break put him in control of the second set, and he consolidated his position from there.

Again an early break gave him the advantage in the third set, but Halys then had numerous break back opportunities without being able to make any of them count.

And, by the time he was broken once more at the start of the fourth set, the match had slipped away from him. Bonzi was able to see it out without any further alarms.

Eubanks v Bonzi Prediction and Tip

If Eubanks wants to go deep into this tournament, these are the type of matches he needs to win in the earlier rounds without too much difficulty.

He is an improved player since the last time they met, and, if he can avoid the sudden dip in form he experienced in his match with Kwon, should book his third round spot.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Eubanks to win: 2/5 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 40.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
