Petra Kvitova v Caroline Wozniacki Head to Head

The two ladies share quite a bit of rivalry. Kvitova leads 8-6 at the moment, having lost their last meeting in the 2018 WTA Finals.

Wozniacki Starts Well

Caroline Wozniacki, who is staging her comeback to the WTA Tour after a three-and-a-half-year hiatus, began her campaign at the US Open with a simple win over Tatiana Prozorova.

The 33-year-old Dane needed an hour and 22 minutes to win the match 6-3, 6-2. In many ways, it was a good practice run for Wozniacki, who still seems understandably rusty. In the match with Prozorova, she won 76% of the points behind the first serve while committing 21 unforced errors and hitting 10 winners.

Before this, Wozniacki played in Cincinnati and Montreal, where her total record was 1-2; she beat Kimberly Birrell but lost to Marketa Vondrousova and Varvara Gracheva without winning a set.

Overall, Caroline’s pedigree needs no introduction. A former #1 with three Grand Slam finals – two right here at the US Open – she is more than experienced to go toe-to-toe with the elites.

Of course, it is a different story to translate her success from 50+ WTA career finals into a positive result after a three-year break from pro tennis. At 7/4 with bet365, bookies are certainly not underestimating the unseeded star here.

Kvitova Off to a Decent Start

Petra Kvitova also enjoyed a good start to the tournament, beating Cristina Bucsa 6-1, 7-6(5). The 11th-seeded Czech was admittedly tested in that match – which is good, seeing that she will next play a legend.

While Kvitova struck an impressive 34 winners off her left hand, she also committed 18 unforced errors.

That win was Kvitova’s 28th of the season – racked against only 10 losses. Now ranked World No. 11, Petra has had a good year with two titles from the German Open and Miami Open. She also featured in round four at Wimbledon and QF in Indian Wells while largely skipping the clay swing for fitness reasons.

In the recent tournaments, Kvitova did lose early on in Montreal and Cincinnati to the likes of Belinda Bencic and Linda Noskova. She is obviously not the most consistent or unbeatable player on the tour, giving Wozniacki plenty of precedents to work with.

Kvitova v Wozniacki Prediction and Tip

Expect a cracking affair. Kvitova may face some problems but if she starts strong and confident, there is no reason why can’t win this.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 10/11 (with bet365)
