Magda Linette v Jennifer Brady Head to Head

Brady leads 3-1, having beaten Linette in their last three meetings. They last met in 2020 in Lexington, where she won in straight sets.

Linette Beats Sasnovich

Magda Linette took just a little over an hour to beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3, 6-1. The win was pretty much handed to the Pole, seeing that Sasnovich made 34 unforced errors while the 24th seed kept her count in single digits.

Now ranked World No. 24, Linette is looking for a similar result to her historic semifinal stint at the Australian Open in January. Since then, she hasn’t quite managed to emulate such a feat.

The 31-year-old has competed in several tournaments but has had to make do with early to mid-stage defeats.

Her notable results over the year include a fourth-round showing in the Miami Open and round-three feats in Wimbledon and the Italian Open.

Linette also participated in the US Open build-up tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati but lost her opening matches to Victoria Azarenka and Ann Li, respectively.

All in all, Linette’s singles record stands at 21-19 for the season. With little momentum behind her, Brady is poised to ask sorts of questions.

Brady Moves Past Birrell

Jennifer Brady is navigating a long road to greatness again after having injuries keep her away from the tour for close to two years.

The former World No. 44, who made it to the semifinal in the US Open in 2020 (her last time here) and reached the final at the Australian Open the following season, has had to settle for an injury hiatus and a lot of frustration.

Brady resumed play only in July 2023, starting in ITF Granby, where she fell in round two to Himero Sakatsume.

Thereafter, the 28-year-old played in the Citi Open, Montreal Open, and Cincinnati – but lost matches early on. This is largely due to her going against demanding opponents like Madison Keys, Donna Vekic, and Elena Rybakina. Jennifer beat Kimberly Birrell 6-3, 7-6(4) this week in New York in under two hours to enjoy some solid practice.

Brady’s previous record can’t be neglected here. The fact that bet365 is putting her at 1/2 to win this one is quite telling.

Brady v Linette Prediction and Tip

Linette’s rusty form and Brady’s home advantage make this clash an interesting one. With some confidence, there is no reason why the American can’t cause an upset and move into round three – albeit after some resistance from the Pole.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
