World no. 8 Andrey Rublev moved into the round of 16 by beating a third Frenchman in a row in the third round of the US Open on Saturday.
Rublev, who knocked out Arthur Cazaux in the first round and Gael Monfils in the second, needed two hours and 33 minutes to beat world no. 73 Arthur Rinderknech 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, 7-5 on Saturday.
Out-aced 10-16 by Rinderknech, the Russian saved 3 of 5 break points and capitalised on 6 of 11 breaking opportunities to reach the second week for the fifth time at the US Open.
Making his eighth appearance at the US Open this season, Rublev has been a quarterfinalist three times, including last year. He was also a quarterfinalist at the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year and a win on Monday will take him into a ninth Grand Slam quarterfinal. He has however never reached a major semifinal.
This year in New York, Rublev began his campaign by beating Cazaux in straight sets and then he needed four sets to knock out Monfils.

Draper Defeats Mmoh
Jack Draper knocked out Michael Mmoh in four sets in the third round on Saturday to reach the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
There were injury concerns for the world no. 123 before the start of the tournament, but the British player has shrugged off those concerns with a fantastic performance in the first three rounds.
Draper, who began with a straightforward 6-1, 6-4 , 6-3 win over Radu Albot, stunned 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz 6-2, 6-4, 7-5 in the second round.
He lost a set for the first time in the tournament against Mmoh, but was in control for most parts of the contest as he beat the American 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
The 21-year-old lefty, who suffered a shoulder injury earlier this year, struck 13 aces and 52 winners to dump out the world no. 89 Mmoh.
Last year, Draper had made it to the third round on his US Open debut; this year he has gone a step ahead. Can he reach his maiden major quarterfinal on Monday?

Rublev is the more experienced campaigner. Since 2020, he has consistently made the quarterfinals of Grand Slam tournaments and a 43-17 season record is a reflection of how good a form he has been in throughout this year. Expect the Russian to win the contest and reach another major quarterfinal.
