Carlos Alcaraz v Daniil Medvedev Head to Head

This will be their fourth meeting with Alcaraz leading 2-1 on head to head.

Medvedev had won their 2021 Wimbledon match in straight sets only to lose to Alcaraz in Indian Wells and at Wimbledon earlier this year.

Alcaraz Brilliant Again Against Zverev

Alexander Zverev had promised he would fight hard till the very end against Alcaraz in their US Open 2023 quarterfinal but the result was evidence of how much more the German needs to improve against his Spanish opponent.

Because while both players struggled with the heat and humidity of New York on the day, Alcaraz had far too much left in his tank as he strolled to a comfortable victory.

In a match that lasted only two hours and 24 minutes, Alcaraz was never in trouble with his serve as he saved all five of the break-points he faced while getting better of his opponent’s serve on five occasions. He clinched his semifinal berth 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 as he took advantage of Zverev’s poor second serves all match.

In fact in the second set, Alcaraz allowed Zverev to win a mere 11% of the second serve points and this number increased to a mere 25% in the third. On the other hand, Alcaraz helped himself to 29 winners as opposed to his opponent’s 22 with both players making similar unforced errors.

Alcaraz now faces a repeat of the Wimbledon semifinal against Medvedev and having dropped just nine games in that encounter, it’s no surprise that he starts off a 3/10 favourite (with bet365) there.

Medvedev Eases Past Rublev

In an all-Russian quarterfinal, Medvedev eased past his friend Andrey Rublev in straight sets to make it to another Grand Slam semifinal.

Having won this title in 2021, Medvedev had entered this year’s US Open on the back of an underwhelming hardcourt swing in North America. He has, however, shrugged that off with a string of five wins including one against Alex de Minaur in the fourth round and now against Rublev to enter the last four.

Medvedev was on court for two hours and 48 minutes in his 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 drubbing of Rublev but things could have been so much different had the world number eight managed to hold on to his nerve.

Because in each of the three sets, Medvedev looked like he was up against it.

Rublev was up 3-1 in the first set and had a one-break advantage in both the second and third sets as well but failed to close it out. In total there were 14 breaks of serves in the encounter to go with a mere 15 holds which was an indicator of how brutal the conditions were.

Medvedev will now hope he can turn things around Alcaraz but rather unsurprisingly he is a distant 13/5 (with bet365) to do that.

Alcaraz v Medvedev Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz is in rip-roaring form and by the looks of it, Djokovic seems to be the only player who can match him toe to toe. In essence he will be a huge favourite to win this and even if he does struggle for short periods that might not yield too much for Medvedev.

Going with an Alcaraz win with Medvedev to win a set at the very best.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Alcaraz to win: 2/7 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 6.5 breaks in the match: 4/5 (with bet365)
