Jelena Ostapenko v Danielle Collins Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players before this and Ostapenko has won both times. This includes a match at the 2023 WTA Abu Dhabi where Ostapenko needed three sets to edge out Collins.

She might have made it to the quarterfinal at the US Open and a result of that, jumped up the rankings to 16th but Ostapenko was never going to have it easy against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Alexandrova had entered the match at similar winning odds as her opponent with bet365 offering 10/11 for her victory and nearly three hours into the encounter it was difficult to pick the winner.
At one stage in the final set, Ostapenko led 2-0 only to lose four games in a row to fall 2-4 behind. Serving to stay in the match, Ostapenko was broken again giving Alexandrova two opportunities to serve for the match.
Ostapenko broke her at 5-2 and 5-4 and then at 5-6, she scooped up her first match-point to send a shocked Alexandrova out.

Collins Quells Chirico Challenge
Louisa Chirico did start off her opening round match with a lot of determination but Collins wore her down to clinch their first round encounter victory.
Collins needed an hour and 12 minutes in the end to carve out a 7-5, 6-0 win after managing to break her opponent four times in a row. She faced two break-points of her own and ended up saving both while getting past Chirico with ease towards the second half of the encounter.
This follows a second round exit for Collins at the US Open where she lost to the 9/5 underdog (at bet365) Elise Mertens. For someone who had shown a return to form in recent times by making it to the Montreal Open quarterfinals, that defeat to Mertens after winning the first set would have been hard to fathom.
Which is why a first round victory here against Chirico as Collins overcame a slow start to advance to the second round should instill that much more confidence in her.
Collins starts out a narrow favourite (4/5 at bet365), which is a bit of a surprise given what Ostapenko has done in recent times.

Backing Ostapenko to go past Collins like she has done in the past too. Could turn out to be a battle though which sees a tie-breaker and/or a third set.
