Veronika Kudermetova v Victoria Azarenka Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two and Kudermetova has won them both. Their latest match-up came earlier this year in Adelaide where Kudermetova needed three sets to come through.

Kudermetova Struggles to End Three-Match Losing Streak

At one point this season, Kudermetova was ranked ninth in the world and was within touching distance of making it through to the WTA Finals this season.

Unfortunately for her, a fitness concern in Berlin looks to have put paid to her chances as her recent performances following that injury have simply not been up to the scratch.

Kudermetova was sent packing in the second round at Wimbledon, lost to Venus Williams in the first round of the Cincinnati Open and has since lost three of the four matches she has played. That includes first round losses at the US Open and the San Diego Open last week.

Making matters worse is the fact that Kudermetova’s defeats have all been straight-set losses.

Which is why while she defeated Eugenie Bouchard in the second round here following an opening bye, Kudermetova had a huge struggle as she needed three sets to get past her opponent.

Not surprisingly, she is 6/5 to win this with bet365.

Azarenka Takes Her Time with Yastremska

Azarenka was always a favourite going up against the off-colour Dayana Yastremska but she did not have it easy in the second round.

Made to fight for every point, the Belarusian number two came through 6-4, 7-6 (5) to make it to the third round in two hours and 10 minutes.

The first set was relatively more straightforward for Azarenka, who broke her opponent once and then had break-points in the fifth and seventh games of the set too which she frittered away. In the second, however, Azarenka fell 0-2 down and then saw Yastremska serve for the set at 5-3.

Azarenka came back both times to break her opponent, then saved two set-points on her own serve before squeaking past Yastremska in the tie-breaker that followed.

While Azarenka starts off a favourite (3/5 with bet365) against a clearly struggling Kudermetova, she herself hasn’t had a lot of results go her way having won successive matches for the first time in five tournaments.

Kudermetova v Azarenka Prediction and Tip

Kudermetova hasn’t had it easy since her fitness concerns but we can expect her to put up a fight here. A topsy-turvy battle that could go either way in the third set.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Kudermetova to win a set: 4/9 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 4/5 (with bet365)
