Aleksandar Kovacevic v Kimmer Coppejans Head to Head

They played on outdoor hard last year at the Busan Open. Coppejans narrowly emerged victorious, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Kovacevic Enjoying the Best Season of his Career

The 25-year-old American, started the 2023 season ranked at world number 158. Since, he has been edging closer towards the illustrious top 100. Kovacevic won his maiden Challenger title at the Cleveland Open in February and swiftly won a second the following month.

He continued his strong start to the season and reached a career high ranking of 101 after securing a main draw win at the Miami Open.

As for his overall season. Well, it can be summed up by his YTD Win/Loss records on the Challenger and ATP Tours: at 17-9 and 3-7 respectively.

So, despite a highly respectable season, the later of these records demonstrates that Kovacevic is yet to fully establish himself onto the ATP Tour. Kovacevic’s results speak for themselves and suggest he has improved in the last year. He should have the renewed confidence to reverse the result from the close encounter last year.

Coppejans Has a Losing Record on Hard Courts

The 29-year-old turned pro in 2012 and reached a career high ranking of 97th, in 2015. Coppejans has predominantly played on the Challenger tour and has only competed in one main draw ATP/Grand Slam match this season.

He too has a winning record at the Challenger level; albeit not to the same extent as Kovacevic this season.

Coppejans has claimed six Challenger titles in his career thus far; five of which were on clay and one on hard. His uncomfortableness on hard courts is further demonstrated by his losing Win/Loss records on the surface.

Whilst his season so far hasn’t been outstanding, he has had some better results recently, including a Challenger final in Banja Luka and a third-round qualifying match for the US Open.

It may be slightly concerning that aside from the US Open qualifiers, Coppejans’s last five tournaments have all been on clay. This could put him at a disadvantage against Kovacevic, who has recently been playing on the North American hard courts.

Having won their previous encounter, Coppejans may still fancy his chances.

Kovacevic v Coppejans Prediction and Tip

Their rankings and results suggest they aren’t classes apart and it could be a good game. I expect Kovacevic to win on this occasion. He has been on the rise this season and has a much better affinity to hard courts than his opponent.
