Magda Linette v Xiyu Wang Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the Hua Hin Open of 2020 and Linette had won it on her way to the title – her last WTA title.

Linette Cruises Through against Putintseva

In a match that did not rise to the expectations of the fans and bookmakers alike, Linette eased her way to a straight-set win over Yulia Putintseva to seal off her first finals berth since her appearance at the Chennai Open last year.

Linette needed just an hour and 17 minutes to register a 6-2, 6-3 win over Putintseva as she saved all three of the break-points she faced in the encounter. In return, Linette broke her opponent three times to close out the encounter.

This follows a six successive sets that Linette had won prior to this, having started off the tournament with a tie-breaker loss to Jodie Burrage in the very first round. Since then, she has been challenged by both Daria Saville and Rebeka Masarova but has found her way to a win.

She will start off a favourite (1/2 with bet365) against Wang who has never played in a WTA final before this.

Wang Outclasses Minnen

In a battle between two players who had both never made it to the final of a WTA final, Wang overcame Greet Minnen in straight sets to seal her maiden title-decider spot.

Wang dropped her serve in the very first game of the match but quickly made amends by breaking Minnen in the second and then again in the sixth. She served out to 15 to grab the first.

The second set proved to be an easier one for Wang who raced off to a 4-0 lead at one stage before Minnen pulled one back to make it 4-3. Wang, however, proved to be a better player as she dropped just two more points on her own serve after that to seal the win.

In the previous rounds, Wang had carved out straight sets wins over Nadia Podoroska and Diana Shnaider before facing a tough challenge in her quarterfinal against Viktoria Hruncakova. The 125th-ranked Hruncakova proved to be a big obstacle in Wang’s way after it looked like the Chinese player was cruising to another straight-set win at one stage.

Wang eventually won in the third set before getting back to clinical ways when she sent Minnen packing here.

Can she overturn the 9/5 odds on offer for her win here with bet365?

Linette v Wang Prediction and Tip

Linette’s experience should play a big part in this as she can be expected to quell anything that her Chinese opponent throws at her, evening winning from being a set down we think.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Linette to win: 1/2 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
