World no. 33 Sebastian Korda began his Zhuhai campaign with a three-set win over Alexandre Müller on Saturday.
The fourth seed, who had a first round bye, needed an hour and 56 minutes to beat the Frenchman 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Korda served 9 aces, saved 4 of 6 break points and converted 4 of 5 to march into a fifth quarterfinal of the season.
He has a 3-1 record in quarterfinals this year. The only one that he lost was the one at the Australian Open, which was his first and only quarterfinal appearance in a major.
Korda, who missed out on a few months’ action due to a wrist injury, was a finalist in Adelaide. A one-time tour level champion, he will be aiming to reach a fourth semifinal of the year with a win on Sunday.

Etcheverry Motors Along
After a straightforward win in the first round on Thursday, world no. 36 Tomás Martín Etcheverry scored a straight sets win over Dalibor Svrcina in the second round on Saturday to march into the quarterfinals.
The Argentine, who had defeated Australia’s Luke Saville 6-4, 6-4 in the first round, needed an hour and 32 minutes to dispatch the Czech player 6-2, 6-3.
Etcheverry saved 5 of 7 break points and converted 6 of 11 to improve his season numbers to 35-23 across levels.
He has enjoyed a lot of success on clay this year, reaching his first two career finals in Santiago and Houston, but he is yet to win a maiden title.
Etcheverry has struggled to deliver outside clay, but after two wins from two matches, he will be aiming to reach a first hard court semifinal of the season.
