Ugo Humbert v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

They played a couple of times so far and Sonego actually leads the H2H 2-1. The Italian won both matches this year but they were played on clay, the surface that favours Sonego.

Humbert Eyes Strong Hard Court Return

Ugo Humbert finally returned to his former self this year, playing some solid tennis. It’s not his peak, but it’s not as bad as it was last year. The French player has a good skillset with a precise and powerful serve and a really solid forehand.

He likes to play attacking tennis and does it well, but he needs the conditions to work in his favour. He was not terrible on clay this year, but he’ll never be a great fit on that surface. It’s the reason why he lost both matches against Sonego this year; both were on clay. Humbert won their lone match on hard courts.

This one is also on hard courts, and it should theoretically favour him. He showed a better level than Sonego in the recent Davis Cup, so expect him to arrive with a decent amount of confidence.

If that’s the case, I don’t see him messing this up, but this likely ends as a very close match, and those can go either way often.

Sonego Aims at Another Win Over Humbert

Lorenzo Sonego played Ugo Humbert twice this year and won both matches, but they were on clay. It’s the surface that he favours as opposed to the French player. Even so, the Italian can play on a decent level on hard courts. It’s to do with his skill set, especially the serve and forehand.

He enjoys playing attacking tennis and generally follows his serve. If he serves well then generally he’s more likely to win and sometimes it’s even exclusive. Due ot that, he’s quite streaky and hard to predict.

His recent form hasn’t been that impressive, but he can flip the switch at any time. I could see him shine against Humbert once more but it’s far from a certainty. It will come down to the serve of both players.

The player that serves better will win the match, and honestly, the French player seems more stable in that regard. This year generally hasn’t been that great for Sonego with a 23-24 record so far so be careful with him.

Humbert v Sonego Prediction and Tip

This one is painful to call because of the nature of both players. Neither looks too impressive right now, and they have similar skillsets. I’m going to back the over simply because I think we’ll see at least one tiebreak.
